National Library of Estonia campaign awarded in Clear Message competition

29. November 2024

In October and November 2024, the Clear Message competition was held in Estonia for the 9th time, organised by the Institute of the Estonian Language in cooperation with the European Commission Representation in Estonia. The patron of the competition and the clear language initiative is Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madise.

Viktor Gurov, Gete Tammann and Liina Luhats-Ulman from RaRa accepting the award with Arvi Tavast and Ülle Madise.

The goal of the Clear Message competition is to raise awareness in Estonia about the value of clear societal communication and to recognise companies and organisations that cherish the beauty of the Estonian language and convey clear and understandable messages to the public. A clear message means that the communication—be it a statement, idea, or information—is crafted with wording, structure, and design that allow individuals to easily find the information they need, understand it, and act on it accordingly.

This year, 104 entries were submitted to the competition. Awards were presented in four categories and one of them was won by the National Library of Estonia for its Mastermind Consultation campaign in the category “practical text with practical visuals.” This free consultation service aims to promote information literacy and the dissemination of research-based knowledge.

We introduced the service as follows: A mastermind can be a pupil, student, or, for example, an enthusiast interested in a particular topic. They can navigate the research portal like a top entrepreneur navigates strategies, find the right sources like a treasure-hunter finds a treasure, and master the art of browsing like a Jedi Master. A mastermind has the superpowers to write a compelling and to the point fact-based research paper, thesis, or article. Furthermore, these useful skills will serve them for life!

Thanks to the new Mastermind identity and campaign messages, a record number of consultations have been conducted at the library this year.
